2012 Strange Arrange Winner and Grammy Nominated/Songwriter, Musiq Soulchild remix a HIT in Nashville
Nurdy Tunes graced our Strange Arrange competition and played a captivating soundtrack of something strange for hundreds of music lovers. Excelling through fierce competition amongst the top 5 bands, but they claimed the title as the grand prizewinners. With their compelling styles of music ranging from Hip-Hop, R&B, Fusion to Jazz, Nurdy Tunes stuck to their roots and played soulfully. The members of Nurdy Tunes: Kerry "2Smooth" Marshall of Birmingham, Ala., Jamahl Smith of Atlanta, GA. Dwele Coore of New Haven, Conn., Arranger Sean Wright and Tadarius "T Ray" McCombs, both of Miami, Florida. Each member brought something diverse and memorable to the stage.
Professional and faith driven, Nurdy Tunes set themselves apart from most bands because they are not only individually talented, but also “consistently cohesive, as a group”, in the words of Strange Arrange Judge Musiq Soulchild.
After winning the competition, the group received the opportunity to play behind the GRAMMY Award Nominated Artist, Musiq Soulchild at the SAE Recording Studio in Nashville. The group recorded a master track of Musiq’s hit single“For The Night” and a music video with Musiq.
Musiq Soulchild is a musical perfectionist in the studio; very down to earth and genuine, Marshall says.” “He taught us how to perfect our crafts and how to have fun while doing so.” Practice makes perfect and Musiq Soulchild indeed exemplified this to the group and everyone who witnessed the studio recording.
Since the competition, the Nurdy Tunes continue to build their brotherhood, as well as their clientele. These young men continue to work with major recording artists such as: Diggy Simmons, Joe Thomas, Rick Ross, Donnie McClurkin, Calvin Richardson, Jacob Latimore, and many others.
We appreciate the opportunity and definitely see the Strange Arrange as being a major platform for aspiring musician to learn, grow, and network. For those who did not win, just to be in the atmosphere amongst great musical talent is a prize within itself. We’re definitely humbled by the whole thing
-Nurdy Tunes
